Drum Circle at Franklin Correctional Facility
Facilitated by Chris Bohl
A drum circle provides the opportunity for individuals of all ages and abilities to come together and share rhythms in a supportive group setting. By blending our individual beats, we create a harmonious, unified sound. Engaging in percussion within this environment helps participants sharpen their focus and reduce stress and anxiety, similar to the calming effects of meditation. Moreover, the drum circle cultivates a strong sense of community as everyone collaborates to create a collective rhythm. This shared rhythm is rooted in the concept of "entrainment," a term from bio-musicology that highlights the unique human ability to connect through rhythm. This process allows the group to draw on collective strength and confidence, fostering a sense of unity and alleviating feelings of fear and insecurity.
